ASYMMETRIC CAUSAL LINKAGES BETWEEN LIQUIDITY AND PROFITABILITY FOR MENA ISLAMIC BANKS

This paper investigates the impact of liquidity on Islamic bank profitability. We examine existence asymmetric causal linkages or structural shifts in profitability-liquidity nexus for a sample 34 banks Middle East and North Africa (MENA) countries over period 2005-2017 using Panel Threshold Regression controlling bank-specific macroeconomic variables. Empirical evidence highlights non-linear relationship between Indeed, there is significant negative profitability if ratio loan/total assets does not exceed threshold. Contrariwise, positively affects Furthermore, empirical shows that size adversely related to banks’ given economies scale issues banks. The CAR well emphasized above below highlight face trade-off They are recommended strengthen risk management instruments improve their notably within framework Basel III requirements maintain adequate high-quality liquid assets.
